7 Types of Dyslexia
1. Phonological = trouble decoding words

- AKA trouble sounding out words
- Most common type of dyslexia
2. Rapid naming = trouble naming letters/numbers/colors quickly

- Linked to reading speed
- Linked to processing speed of reading
3. Double deficit = trouble with both of the first two types of dyslexia

- Combination of the phonological and rapid naming types
- Considered the most severe type of dyslexia
4. Surface = trouble recognizing whole words

- Unable to read a word that is spelled differently than its pronunciation (i.e., yacht)
- AKA dyseidetic dyslexia, orthographic dyslexia
5. Visual = trouble recalling what they saw on a page

- Loses their place while reading
- Struggles to remember what they just read
6. Developmental = genetic

- Present at birth
- More common in boys, especially in left-handed boys
7. Acquired = results from traumatic brain injury

- Only type of dyslexia with known cause (i.e., stroke or concussion)
